Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) continues its free Concert in the Country series with cellist Rebecca Shasberger on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at 2:00 pm at the Homerville United Methodist Church, 9097 Spencer Road, Homerville, Ohio, 44235. Rebecca will present a program entitled “Bridges and Dances,” which explores how people and cultures are brought together, particularly through music used for and inspired by dance. Music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Gaspar Cassadó, David Eby, Mark Summer, and Mark O’Connor will be featured on this program.

About the Artist

Praised for the “maturity and sensitivity” of her playing (Casa Magazine), Cleveland-based cellist Rebecca Shasberger is passionate about connecting with people from all walks of life. To this end she leads a program teaching strings at the Grafton prison, and founded Renovare Music in 2018, a nonprofit whose vision is to bring hope and healing through music. (Visit www.renovaremusic.org to learn more). In addition to teaching strings at the prison, Rebecca maintains a private studio of cellists. She has also taught at the Cleveland School of the Arts, Thrive Arts Center, the Aurora School of Music, and the Westmont Academy for Young Artists, amongst other programs and schools.

Rebecca has presented solo performances and concerti with orchestras from California to New York, in Canada, China, and across Europe. While in Northeast Ohio Rebecca performs in venues ranging from Severance Hall to hospitals to bars with groups including Classical Revolution Cleveland and on the Musical Upcoming Stars in the Classics (M.U.S.i.C) concert series. Her chamber music performances have taken her across the United States and been broadcast by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

In the orchestral realm she has appeared with the Canton Symphony, Akron Symphony, West Coast Symphony, West Coast Chamber Orchestra, the Lancaster Festival Orchestra, and as principal cellist with Cleveland’s Heights and Suburban Symphonies. Past summer festival appearances include Aspen, Banff, Credo, Toronto Summer Music, and the McGill International String Quartet Academy.

Rebecca completed her Masters in Cello Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy at the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) in the studio of Sharon Robinson and her bachelor’s degree at Westmont College. Previous teachers include Trevor Handy, John Sant’Ambrogio, and Dr. Nona Pyron.
