Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) and the Friends of the Secrest Arboretum continue their summer Music at the Arboretum concert series on Friday, July 25, 2025, with the Back Porch Swing Band.
The Back Porch Swing Band plays a variety of good ‘old timey’ music ranging from Americana standards and early country to foot tapping swing and early rock and roll. They are the perennial house band for the summer square dances at Malabar Farms, where they play traditional square dance songs and other swinging favorites to hundreds of dancers. They can also be found playing summer music programs in gazebos and bandshells throughout Ohio and beyond.
In the event of rain, the concert will be held at Fisher Auditorium, 1680 Madison Avenue, Wooster, OH 44691. For more information call 419-853-6016.
About the Musicians
Pete Shew, on guitar, is the backbone of the back porch swing band. His swinging guitar style and extensive song knowledge provides the band with their ‘good old fashioned’ sound. Pete also sings lead and back up vocals. Although ‘retired’ Pete still runs a beef ranch
Jonathan Sowers has been playing bass for various bands over the last 35 years. He provides rhythm to the band with both the upright and electric bass. In real life, Jonathan is an IT Infrastructure Engineer.
Kristine Geis has been singing one way or another since her school days. When not calling square dances and being the front woman of the band, Kris performs in front of 150 seventh grade students as a middle school science teacher in Zanesville, Ohio.
