Ameer Williamson (Minus the Alien): Hip Hop History in the 21st Century

Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) and the Wadsworth Public Library continue Live at the Library with hip hop artist Ameer Williamson (Minus the Alien) on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 2 pm at the Wadsworth Public Library, 132 Broad Street, Wadsworth, OH 44281.

The program will begin with the origins of hip hop, then move on to the elements and discussion of pioneers in the field. Williamson will continue with a discussion of the positive side of hip hop culture as well as the weaponization of hip hop culture. From this point, Williamson will present hip hop as a mentoring tool, talk about social awareness and politics, and share with the audience career paths and the global impact of this unique form of music. He will end with the 50th year anniversary of hip hop and mention how hip-hop musicians have bridged the gap between old and new school.

About the Performer/Presenter

Minus The Alien (Ameer Williamson) is a hip-hop Recording Artist/Songwriter from Akron, Ohio. His passion, unique voice, creative lyrics, catchy hooks, soulful harmonies and vocal arrangements, combined with conscious subject matter, sonically provide a formula that can be embraced by all ages. He was named as one of the 2021 top ten Akron rappers to check for by OkayPlayer.com

Minus The Alien has had the privilege to open for legendary hip hop pioneers such as Rakim, Souls of Mischief, Whodini, Slum Village and Casual. He has performed at various venues throughout Northeast Ohio, including Jilly’s Music Room, Canton Football Hall of Fame, The Bop Stop, The Odeon, Grog Shop, Lock 3 Live, Akron Civic Theatre, Blu Jazz, Musica, Canal Park Stadium, Akron Art Museum and Zimmerman Symphony Center. He has performed at several music festivals, including Porch Rokr, Square Fest, Global Village Fest and Big Love Fest.

Minus The Alien appeared on “Around Akron with Blue Green”, which airs on PBS. He has had several write-ups in the “Akron Beacon Journal”, “The Cleveland Plain Dealer”, “Cleveland Scene Magazine” and “Spectrum News Ohio.” His music can be heard in regular rotation on 91.3 FM The Summit.
