Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) continues its summer Jazz under the Stars series with the Joe Leaman Jazz Trio. Leaman is an in demand pianist, percussionist and instructor in the Northeast Ohio region. He has been seen with local artists Jack Schantz, Helen Welch, Dave Morgan, and has performed with the bands Special Request, Charita Franks, and Axon Neuron just to name a few. Joe is currently the Music and Worship Director for Montrose Zion United Methodist Church in Bath, and is the keyboard specialist at Woodsy’s Music in Kent. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from The University of Akron.

Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, picnics and enjoy this free concert. In the event of rain the concert will be held at The United Church of Christ, 217 East Liberty Street, Medina, Ohio 44256.

Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach continues its free Sunday afternoon concerts with the Lempner Jazz Duo in a concert devoted to the sounds of Spring at the Wadsworth Public Library. The concert is free.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS</strong

Saxophonist Tom Lempner serves on the music faculty at Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Music and Cleveland State University. He has over ten years experience working as a music therapist at the Prentiss Autism Center and with the urban youth population of Cleveland who have severe emotional disturbances. Tom has collaborated with ORMACO to facilitate grant-funded therapeutic music workshops in Medina, Ohio, with at-risk youth and has been part of the Jazz under the Stars summer concert series. Tom earned a Master of Music at Kent State University and a double bachelor’s degree in music therapy and music performance at the Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Music. He also earned a diploma from the Armed Forces School of Music in Little Creek, Virginia and is a veteran of the United States Army.

Adam Sarata is currently the Director of the Summit Music School. He has taught at the University of Mount Union, Ashland University, Muskingum University, and the Community Music School of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. He studied classical and jazz guitar with James Piorkowski, Dean Newton, and Stephen Aron. On a full scholarship, he completed graduate studies at the University of Akron in 2001. Sarata has released three classical guitar recordings: Guitar at Akron, Cavata, and Sul Tasto. WCLV of Cleveland endorsed his playing as “lovely, colorful, [a] very nice performance.” He has written articles published in Soundboard Magazine and Basically Bohlen.

Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) opens the eigth season of Jazz Under the Stars with Bobby Selvaggio. Director of the Jazz Studies program at Kent State University, Selvaggio is one of the leading alto saxophone voices on today’s jazz scene. In the words of pianist Kenny Werner, “Bobby is among the best of players out there,” and legendary saxophonist Joe Lovano praises Bobby by calling him “one of the few young saxophonists on the scene today that captures you with his strong presence, focus and sound.”
